Long Term Sequelae

This cohort includes 154 children with chronic OME recruited in 1987-1990 at the time of tympanostomy tube treatment.  Children were followed prospectively after enrollment with audiometry, otomicroscopy and multifrequency tympanometry until 2001.  Exams occurred every 3 months for the first 3 years, every 6 months through years 4 - 6, and annually thereafter.  Developmental testing (speech-language, academic, cognitive, attention, and central auditory tests) between the ages of 11 and 15 years was done at Camp Ears on 85 participants and 55 controls without an OM history.  Study participants and their families have been recruited for the Genetic Study. For more detail on variables collected, see Long Term Sample Data Forms, Long Term Data Dictionaries, Camp Ears Data Dictionaries.
