664 Minnesota infants and children ages 2 weeks to 5 years underwent screening with tympanometry, and distortion products otoacoustic emissions in 1997-99. Parents provided data on OM history of the child and other family members, risk factors for OM and hearing loss, knowledge and beliefs about OM, and demographic factors. Children who failed the screening were referred to their physicians, and medical records were collected to determine whether the child had a post screening clinic visit, and if so, the physician’s diagnosis and results of any additional testing. Eligible participants and their families have been recruited for the Genetic Study. For more detail on variables collected, see Hearing Screening Study Forms, Hearing Screening Data Dictionaries.
